Friday night, May 2nd, police responded to numerous reports of a shooting on 13th Street near the Tribune Tower, which turned out to be the southern cuisine resturant, Pierre Pierre. Sources reported that a woman and a man were injured during the event, but are in stable condition.
However, chef and owner of Pierre Pierre, Cleashaun Hill, expressed his immense disappointment in the community in a post shared to his social media. In the post, Chef Hill walks the viewers through the aftermath of the shooting incident while sarcastically thanking the community for destroying a safe space that is meant to be a Sanctuary for Black Excellence.
Chef Hill: “Thank you Oakland. I appreciate this sh*t. Twenty years of fu*king working. This what y’all gave me. Thank you, I appreciate it so much…”
Chef Hill went on to create a Go Fund Me to rebuild the eatery that is proclaimed a “Beacon of Black Excellence in Oakland.” Chef Hill wishes to continue his contributions to the community such as free community dinners for the youth, charity events and Mother’s Day brunches.
As stated on the campaign, donations will be a contribution towards relocating Pierre Pierre to a safer area, rebuilding the restaurant space, supporting the families of injured guests and affected employees, providing income support to staff during the closure and to enhance security and crisis response efforts for future operations.
